Citadel-Damascus - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The only fortress in Syria built on the same level as the city, instead in the top of a hill. It was erected in 1078 A.D. with masonry taken from the city wall, and in the time of Salahuddin it was turned into a heavily-fortified citadel surrounded by walls, towers, a moat and trenches. As usual, the President welcomes us.

Maktab Anbar-Damascus - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: Maktab Anbar was built in the 19th century by an outlandish Jewish millionaire when he came back from India. Finally when he was ruined, he sold the house. It was restored recently to become a cultural center. It contains some striking tinted glass windows, spacious patios, ornamented halls and ceilings.

Omayyad Mosque-The Eagle Dome-Damascus - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The Dome of the Eagle (Qubbat Al-Nisr) is considered one of the architectural highlights of the Omayyad Mosque. Omayyad Mosque-The Treasury Dome-Damascus - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The Treasury Dome (Qubbat al Khaznah) was built during the reign of the Abbasid ruler Fadil ibn Saleh to protect public funds from thieves and fire. It is exquisitely decorated with fine mosaic work and is elevated by eight marble supports and in the courtyard.
