Apamea - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: Built by Saluqos Nikator, the first king of the Seleucids in Syria in 300 B.C.. Apamea became a center of philosophy and thought. Most of the uncovered ruins in it date back to the Roman and Byzantine ages. It is distinguished for its high walls and the 2 kilometers main thoroughfare (“Cardo”) surrounded by columns with twisted fluting.

Beehive houses - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: They are conical structures of mud whitewashed with an only door and withouth windows, which mantein a constant temperature when it is hot or it is cold. We can find them to the east of Aleppo, in the dusty plains towards Euphrates, and in the arid areas to the east of Hama, still inhabited in villages like Sarouj y Twalid Dabaghein.
