Most of the uncovered ruins in it date back to the Roman and Byzantine ages. It is distinguished for its high walls and the 2 kilometers main thoroughfare (“Cardo”) surrounded by columns with twisted fluting.

We can find them to the east of Aleppo, in the dusty plains towards Euphrates, and in the arid areas to the east of Hama, still inhabited in villages like Sarouj y Twalid Dabaghein.
	Beit Aqqad-Damascus - Syria Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: Beit Aqqad, one of the ancient damascene houses and the most impressive, is occupied by the Danish Institute since 1996. It was owned by Aqqad family, rich textile merchants, in 19th century.
