Text: Built by Saluqos Nikator, the first king of the Seleucids in Syria in 300 B.C.. Apamea became a center of philosophy and thought. Most of the uncovered ruins in it date back to the Roman and Byzantine ages. It is distinguished for its high walls and the 2 kilometers main thoroughfare (“Cardo”) surrounded by columns with twisted fluting.

Text: St. Simeon Stylites was a monk who in the 5th century chained himself in the top of a column (about 20 meters) for 38 years. His primary purpose being was to get closer to God. He preached there and offer advice to pilgrims (except women, whose entrance was forbidden,including his mother).

Text: After St. Simeon death in 459 AD the largest church at that time was built in his honour 60 km north of Aleppo. The complex is made up of a monastery, a baptistery with an adjacent church propylaea and a distinctive church or martyrion, with a Greek cross.

Text: They are conical structures of mud whitewashed with an only door and withouth windows, which mantein a constant temperature when it is hot or it is cold. We can find them to the east of Aleppo, in the dusty plains towards Euphrates, and in the arid areas to the east of Hama, still inhabited in villages like Sarouj y Twalid Dabaghein.
