Madrasa Khanqah of Sultan Al Zahir Barquq-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The facade of this Madrasa Khanqah, founded by Circassian origin Sultan Barquq is paneled with recesses surmounted by stalactites. The upper windows have pointed arches as well as wooden grills.

Its surface is adorned with a carved straight-lined star pattern superimposed on another carved network of undulating arabesques.

The funerary complex of Amir Qurqumas-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: The funerary complex of Amir Qurqumas, dating to 1506-07, adjoins that of Inal to the north. The funerary complex, which included a Friday (congregational) mosque with Sufi hudur services, has a layout very similar to that of Sultan Qaytbay's mosque.

Here, the dome has carved lozenges in the lower part and a zigzag pattern on the upper section.

El Aqmar Mosque-Cairo-Egypt Author: Marta Leonor Vidal Text: El-Aqmar (also known as the Gray Mosque), means "The Moonlit". It was founded during the caliphate of al-Mustansir. It was the first mosque with an entrance that is not on an axis with the qibla wall an it was also the first to have a decorated stone facade.
